A pregnant Christian woman miscarried on July 26 after police beat her and dragged her naked through their police station in the Gujrat District of Punjab, Pakistan. Police had arrested her and a Muslim woman after their employer accused them of theft, but police did not even touch the Muslim woman.

The woman, Farzana Bibi, worked as a maid in the house of a wealthy Muslim. During a wedding held at the house, some jewelry was stolen from some of the landlord's female relatives. The police were called, and when they arrived at the scene they arrested two maids: Farzana and a Muslim woman named Rehana.

Nazir Masih, Farzana's husband, said, "Police registered a fake theft case against my wife and Rehana without any proof."

Nazir went on to say that the police tortured his wife even though she told them she was pregnant. "Sub-Inspector Zulfiqar and Assistant Sub-Inspector Akhter subjected her to intense torture. They stripped off her clothes and dragged her naked around the compound of Cantonment Area Police Station in Kharian. They humiliated and tortured my wife, but did not do anything to Rehana."

"Although Farzana complained of severe pain, the police ignored her pleas and detained her for another two days. When her condition became critical, the police finally transferred her to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Kharian, where she miscarried.

"Nazir filed a report with the District Police Officer in Gujrat, detailing the abuse his wife received and her miscarriage. The District Office initiated an investigation after receiving the report, withdrawing the false accusations and suspending officers Zulfiqar and Akhter.

"The authorities have pledged to punish all those responsible. Please pray that God would comfort Farzana and Nazir and that justice would be carried out.

Farzana was innocent of robbing her employers, it is absolutely unacceptable for police to humiliate her and abuse her so severely that she lost her child. The fact that the Muslim woman accused of the same thing was at least treated like a human being just proves again that if you are not a Muslim in Pakistan, you have no rights. The government should go beyond suspending the two officers guilty of this crime and try them for manslaughter."

Pray that charges are brought against the two officers for manslaughter.

Pray that Farzana recovers both physically and emotionally from this ordeal.

Pray that charges are dropped against Farzana and the other maid.

Many Children and Women are feared burnt to death in 40 homes of Christians set on fire by Muslim attackers in village Korian in district Toba Tek, Punjab.

The Faisalabad-Gojra Road is blocked by Muslim mob who are lying on road to block any help to reach village Korian where homes of Christians are burning.

Our teams the Faisalabad city for Toba Tek after call from Christians in Gojra who are also hiding in homes on fear of attack by Muslims.

According to our sources in Gojra, which is also district headquarter, there was a marriage ceremony of a Christian in village Korian on Sunday where large gathering of Children, Women and Men of relatives were present for celebration.

The Muslim accused one boy in home of marriage ceremony that he has burnt down the pages of Holy Koran. The elders of Christians and Muslims in village met to defuse tension on clarification of Christian youth that he has not burnt pages of Koran.

On night of July 30, 2009, at 9:00 PM the Muslims of Village Korian announced on loudspeakers of mosque to gather and teach lesson to infidel Christians who are protecting accused of blasphemy on burning holy pages of Koran.
The nearby villages also made same announcements from mosque and Muslims gathered before homes of Christians in large numbers.

It is second incident of burning homes of Christian in Punjab province when Muslim mob on accusation of blasphemy attacked village Bahamin Wala in district Kasur on July 1, 2009.

According to Pakistan electronic media, Chief Minister of Punjab have ordered DPO Toba Tek to reach to village Korian and take control of situation but still Faisalabad-Gojra Road is blocked by Muslims.

There is widespread fear among Christians in Punjab province on safety and security of life from attacks of extremist Muslims and misuse of blasphemy laws.

2nd Atteck On Gojra Christian Town!

I have visit the Gojra today and seeing the almost all houses burnt by Muslim mob in Christian railway town. I have seen all things very dreadful, terrifying, with my own eyes. The media (Television, news channels, radio broadcasting) are not showing the exact picture as it has been, there are not any supply to these homeless christians, they are jobless, they are foodless, they are without drinking water, the Government is taking the action very slowly.

I am so astonished to hear that the 7 dead bodies are from one family, their father has been shooted on forehead, they shooted the small two girls, these girls are only five year and seven years old. The Muslim mob used the chemical and fired into the houses, it burst like bomb, and walls become down, the doors become destructive. All images were so miserable.

Two church has been burnt, thousands bibles has been burnt by these attackers. Total nine bodies are died as they are burnt in the fire. A women body totally burnt. Government placed police which do not let to enter the Christians in to the fired place; we walk and enter through small path. We have been entered at the exact place after two hour walking.

Almost all Christians who houses have been destroyed in this colony literally nothing is left. Not a single cup to have tea or glass to drink water or a plate to eat food. I did not see any piece of cloth which they could wear. You can imagine the trauma they have gone through. The mental shock they have going through. The money which they saved for several years to build small room was blown up within seconds. It is very unfortunate that the police of Gojra and other security agencies did not do any thing to prevent this ugly incident.

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ! We appeal you to help these peoples through your giving. You can supply us medicines, clothes, bed sheets, dry milk, and by sending your Love donations for the victims. 60 Christian houses in Pakistan reduced to ashes by chemical bombs over blasphemy accusation.

In another shocking display of violence in Pakistan,

Islamists set ablaze some 60 Christian houses in Korian village in Toba Tek Singh district on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 9:00 pm Pakistan time after a blasphemy accusation was leveled against a young Christian boy, Imran Masih, and his father Talib Masih.

A house torched by Muslims

Eye-witnesses told they could still see plumes of smoke rising from some houses of the village today (Friday, July 31.)

The trouble began for the Christian residents of Korian when Talib, a Christian vendor ignorantly brought home a piece of paper that had Quranic verses written on it, along with some other rough papers.

Talib's children innocently ripped apart the paper not understanding its contents.

When some local Muslims found the torn pieces of paper, the anti-Christian hostility spread like a wildfire in the village.
Imran, one of the blasphemy-accused

Living up to their reputation of penalizing so-called "blasphemers", local Muslim clerics accused the father and son of committing blasphemy and made inflammatory statements against the blasphemy-accused and incited Muslim residents of Korian and adjoining villages to attack the Christians of the village to avenge alleged blasphemy.

Some 500 Muslims from nearby villages of 95, 97 and 362 (J.B), who were armed with firearms and explosives, attacked the Christians of the village. The Christian residents fled to safety as Muslim clerics announced their verdict to "kill the blasphemers."

The chemical used by the Muslim mob to set fire to Christian houses was so inflammable that it utterly destroyed the targeted houses. The Muslim mob also took away Christians' cattle with them.

On hearing of the incident, Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti, Pakistan's Federal Minister for Minorities, rushed to the scene and ordered the police and local administration to arrest the culprits.

The Minister termed the attack as a "heinous crime" against Christians.

Mr. Bhatti went on to say, "It is a worst act of violence against minorities. The perpetrators, instigators and attackers should be arrested for actions against the Anti-Terrorism Act.

"We will protect the lives and properties of minorities and the Christian community. We won't allow any miscreant or extremist to target our Christian brethren.

"Pakistani minorities are not conquered subjects or a sacred trust of anyone. They have same dignity and honor in this country as anyone else. We will protect their honor and respect."

Criticizing Pakistan's controversial blasphemy Laws, Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti said that the laws are being "widely misused to victimize minorities and innocent people of Pakistan."

This law, he said is a "tool in the hands of the extremists and miscreants to harass the minorities and settle personal scores."

Mr. Bhatti apprised that a judicial inquiry has been ordered to look into this case and the culprits "would be charged."

He went on to say, "The blasphemy laws need to be either amended or repealed. A Pakistani Christian, or any other member of minority communities, cannot commit blasphemy."

Bhatti has been at the forefront in the campaign for the repeal of Pakistan's controversial blasphemy laws. In the month of July, the minister stated that he would table a bill in Pakistan's national assembly for the repeal of "all discriminatory laws."

The Minister visited the homes of affected Christians and expressed solidarity with them. He also addressed a gathering of local Christians held in the Church of Pakistan in Korian.

Mr. Bhatti also chaired a meeting later and directed the local administration and the police to take stringent measures aimed at protecting the lives and properties of minorities.

According to media reports, Pakistan President, Asif Ali Zardari, and Pakistan Prime Minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, have also condemned the July 30 violence against Christians.

Pointing to the rising incidence of blasphemy-related violence that at one time "we would hear of blasphemy accusations earlier in years and months, but now it is happening in weeks and days."

"We wonder what will become of the Christians of Pakistan."
We urged the international community to pray for the Christians of Pakistan. Some young Christian girls are also missing from the village. Dismissed reports suggesting that there have been casualties or injuries in the wake of July 30 violence in Korian.

A scene of the July 30 destruction

The Muslim mob also attacked the New Apostolic Church and the Church of Pakistan in the village the Muslim mob had "desecrated and ransacked the churches."

Three Christian men -- Riaz Masih, Salamat Masih and Faryad Masih -- who had come to visit their relatives namely Liaqat and Ishfaq, were missing after July 30 attack against Christian villagers of Korian.

A Christian woman called Hanifa, who told that her five daughters were missing since the July 30 attack. Describing the extent of damage done to the Christian residents of the village by the Muslim invaders, "They took away with them all valuables including TVs and water pumps."

Blasphemy-accused Talib's house as a scene of "utter destruction."

Talib and Imran's family as saying that the invaders had "badly manhandled" Talib and Imran before destroying their house. He said Muslim mob also burnt and desecrated pages of Bible and The Lord's Prayer.

Angry Muslims set ablaze some 100 Christian houses in Bhamniwala village which falls in district Kasur near the eastern city of Lahore on June 30.
The July 30 attack on Christian residents of Korian has "reopened wounds" of Christians which they suffered in the wake of 1997 attack on Shantinagar, a Christian village, as well as it has brought back "tragic memories" of Muslim violence in Christian villages of Bhamniwala and Sangla Hill.
One of the 60 houses set ablaze by Muslims

"This is the fourth biggest blasphemy-related incident of violence in seven months of this year," and pointed out the Christians were being subjected to atrocities, whose ancestors "had polled a casting vote for the creation of Pakistan."

"How much longer can such incidents continue to happen?"

Barkat Masih, 76 a local resident equated the July 30 brutal attack to the direct affront to the Christian faith.
"Is it fair to subject Pakistani Christians to this attack when the people of Pakistan are going to celebrate the Independence Day of Pakistan next month," Pakistan rose on the map on August 14, 1947.

We fail to understand why the miscreants should force Pakistani Christians to flee from their homes in which they have been living even before creation of Pakistan."
"A handful of miscreants behind this dastardly act of violence should be dealt strictly and no lenience should be extended to them."

The Christians have taken shelter in a local Church in the wake of July 30 incident.

Pastor Ishfaq Boby and his team had arrived at the scene of incident, "all houses of Christians were burnt during the July 30 attack. Tthe Christians of the village managed to escape from the fire. Pastor Ishfaq Boby and his team helped fleeing Christians to go to their relatives' houses and gave them some money and arranged the transport for them and also provided them water bottles because there was no water for drink.
Many of the Christians have been robbed of their livestock.

"Rehabilitation is required urgently because nothing is left behind for these poor innocent people,"

Yours Sincerely in Christ,
Pastor Ishfaq Boby
